Water Quality Monitoring

VLAP Program

The Volunteer Lake Assessment Program (VLAP) was launched in 1985 to establish a citizen-based lake sampling program to assist NH Department of Environmental Services (DES) in evaluating lake quality throughout the state. CLAPA is a volunteer participant organization in this effort.

August 2026 Update

In 2026, the VLAP team, Jim LaDine, Frank Belfsky, Bob Lincourt and Tom Whitney helped with sampling water from the lake and several of the contributing inlets.  After several years of measuring the water three times per summer, we have reduced to a single measurement point for the year (June).

The “Five Things” we can do to preserve the quality of lake water are not changed by movements we have seen in the numbers.  We must remain diligent.
