New Hampshire Lakes

New Hampshire is home to nearly 1,000 lakes — some of the cleanest in the country. They are one of the reasons people choose to live in New Hampshire and come from all over the world to visit. Clean and healthy lakes are important to our quality of life, economy, and culture. They are important for the health of our wildlife, too.

NH LAKES' mission is to restore and preserve the health of New Hampshire’s lakes. Our vision is a New Hampshire where all our lakes are clean and healthy, and caring for them is a way of living, doing business, and governing.

Loon Preservation Committee

The Loon Preservation Committee works to preserve loons and their habitats in New Hampshire through programs of monitoring, research, management, and public education, all fostered by an extensive grassroots network of dedicated members and volunteers.

Many of LPC’s initiatives to address threats to loons involve close coordination with federal and state agencies, and other non-profit organizations.

NH DES

The mission of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services is to help sustain a high quality of life for all citizens by protecting and restoring the environment and public health in New Hampshire. The protection and wise management of the state’s environment are the main goals of the agency.

Formed in January 1987 by state statute RSA 21-O, NHDES was legislatively created through the consolidation and reorganization of four previously separate agencies: the Air Resources Agency, the Office of Waste Management, the Water Supply and Pollution Control Commission, and the Water Resources Board. Each of these groups is now represented within the department’s three divisions: Air Resources, Waste Management and Water. NHDES leadership is composed of the agency commissioner, assistant commissioner, chief financial officer and directors of the three divisions.
