Lake Host Program

Protecting our lake from invasive plants and animals is critical. Large areas of invasive plants in Contoocook Lake would make swimming and boating difficult and possibly dangerous. Invasives are expensive to control and nearly impossible to get rid of. They also reduce shoreline property values. And the occurrence of invasive plants and animals in New Hampshire lakes is increasing. Click HERE for more information on invasives currently threatening New Hampshire lakes.

To help reduce the spread of invasives

CLAPA partners with NH Lakes to sponsor a Lake Host Program during the summer season.

Lake Hosts stationed at the public boat ramp on Old County Road on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day conduct fully voluntary inspections of boats entering and leaving the lake. The goal of the Lake Host Program is to restore and preserve the health of New Hampshire lakes by removing any invasive species detected during inspection, educating lake visitors and homeowners about aquatic invasive species, distributing educational materials, and compiling data on boater habits.  It takes only one boat that has not been properly cleaned, drained and dried to introduce an invasive plant or animal into our lake, or to transfer it to another lake.
