Annual Meeting, August 13, 2022, 4:00PM, Woodbound Playbarn
56 members in attendance.
Welcome from President Frank Battaglia.
Introduction of Andrea LaMoreaux, President, NH Lakes. Andrea provided a presentation centering on partnering with NH Lakes to keep Contoocook Lake clean and healthy. She discussed what we as lake users and CLAPA can do today to assure a healthy future for Contoocook Lake. Her presentation will be posted on the CLAPA website. CLAPA has donated $200.00 to NH Lakes.
Frank introduced and thanked all board members for their service during the past year. Also, asked attending members of their interest to join the board for the 2022/2023 slate or provide potential candidates. No response on the latter.
Membership Review: As of the annual meeting we have 130 active members in CLAPA, contributing annual dues YTD of $8,880.00. With 2022 annual expenses at $10,500 our cost per member is $88.00. With dues at $55.00 per member, we have a shortfall to cover annual expenses going forward.
Invasive Weed control: For 2022 we budgeted $11,200 for milfoil harvesting. Aqualogic, Johnsburg, NY was contracted for 8 days at a cost of $1400 per day. 50% of the latter cost will be reimbursed through our NHDES grant. The NHDES biologist surveyed Contoocook Lake on June 1st and identified milfoil in a cove on the west end of the lake across from Blueberry Island. A total of twenty gallons was extracted by Aqualogic’s Dash Dive team on June 7th. Additional milfoil was identified in mid July by our Weed Watchers team of Jean Stokinger, Fletcher Taft and Frank B. Aqualogic spent three days, 7/27-29, harvesting a total of 70 gallons, mostly from the Woodbound Cove. We will have an additional survey by NHDES in early September. Our efforts to maintain a low concentration of variable milfoil in Contoocook Lake continue favorably.
VLAP: Carolyn West and her team submitted water samples from various Contoocook Lake inlets to NHDES on June 15th and July 13th. Chloride levels were satisfactory, pH was mostly satisfactory except for Cochrane Inlet and Dam Outlet, Total Phosphorus was satisfactory except for Squantum Inlet and Walsh Inlet. Biggest concern is with conductivity, where most inlets exceed favorable values probably due to human disturbance from road salting, septic systems and agricultural runoff. Carolyn is to review winter road salt practices with the towns of Jaffrey and Rindge.
Loon Preservation Committee: During this past summer the LPC field biologist, Autumn Heil for the Monadnock Region, visited Contoocook Lake to observe loon pair return, nest initiation, hatching or failure. We have had sightings most of the summer of two loon pairs, but no nesting was identified. We have discussed with the LPC senior biologist, John Cooley about placing a nesting cage somewhere on Contoocook Lake in 2023 to provide a loon pair with a favorable nesting/hatch site. CLAPA has donated $250.00 to the LPC supporting their statewide efforts to assure we continue to hear the loons haunting call here on Contoocook Lake.
Fundraiser/CLAPA Logo Attire: Additional T-shirts and Sweatshirts were ordered for sale at the annual meeting. A new item, long sleeved T-shirt, is now available. All new inventory will only be available in Carolina Blue. Our website has been updated with the revised order form. www.contoocooklake.org
Lake Lowering: We have confirmed with the Jaffrey DPW that the commencing of lake lowering for Contoocook Lake will begin on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Financials: As of August 5, 2022 our financial balance sheet has a total equity value of $123,446. Funds include $112,160 in our Edward Jones investment account and $11,286 in our TD Bank checking account. Total net income YTD for 2022 is $9,820; operating expenses at $6978.50. Copies of our Balance Sheet and Income Statement are available to members by emailing a request to [email protected].
